Bob Mead - Head Coach


A life time resident of Iowa, Bob retired from a career in heavy highway construction in 1994, and currently manages the family farms. Bob lives in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, with his wife of 37 years, Patricia. In 1994, Bob took up competitive shooting as a hobby and it has developed into a passion, especially the coaching aspect.

Bob is currently a coach on the U.S. National Team and is coordinating the Midwest training for the National Team. Bob was a line coach for the 2007 U.S. Palma Team. He has coached Team SEMNO and Team Sierra at the U.S. Nationals and is a five time winner of the U.S. Nationals Roumanian Trophy Palma Team Match, a six time winner of the U.S. Nationals Herrick Trophy Palma Team Match, and a two time winner of the U.S. Nationals Port Clinton Team Trophy. In the 2009 Dominion of Canada Nationals, Bob was the head coach for the U.S. National Team, the first U.S. team to ever sweep the gold medals in all three National Matches: the Outlander Match, the Canada Match and the Commonwealth Match. Individually, Bob has earned the distinguished rifleman medal and has won state long range championships with the Palma rifle. Among his many achievements, he is most excited about winning the Zinsmaster Memorial California Regional, the Spirit of America Commonwealth Match and placing second in the Midwest Palma.

Bob has been a line coach for the F-Open Team dating back to the 2005 team in South Africa where he coached the Rutland Team to a gold medal. He was a line coach for the 2009 silver medal World Team in Bisley. Bob was the coach for Team Berger, winners of the 2006 U.S. F-Class Nationals and numerous other medals. He also coached the winning F-Class Team at the 2007 Irish Challenge and was one of the coaches on the winning U.S. team in the 2008 European Union/U.S.A. Challenge. Bob participates in individual matches where he recently placed 8th overall in the 2009 Imperial Matches in Bisley, and won bronze medals in the Prince of Wales, Wimbledon, and Queens Final. In 2007, in Scotland, Bob placed 2nd at the Blair Athol Invitational Match and set a range record at Blair Adam. Bob placed 11th in the 2005 World Championships in South Africa. He won the individual gold medal in the 2010 Zinsmaster Memorial F-Open California Regional.

Bob enjoys playing poker and support’s Patricia’s interest in genealogy. He is extremely excited to be involved with the F-Class Team in the capacity of head coach.
